A looming reality for HPI practitioners, big data analytics cut across traditional silos that have separated performance improvement, information technology, and data science. This interactive session will share results of a systematic literature review that investigated the emerging use of big data in the workplace. Participants will also practice using a cause analysis model to identify opportunities to use big data to close performance gaps. Join us for a fun and dynamic conversation about HPI’s role in this emerging phenomenon.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define big data.
  • Identify causes of performance gaps that may lend themselves to big data solutions.
  • Identify potential big data applications for HPI practitioners.

Lisa Giacumo, PhD and Steve Villachica, PhD, professors in the OPWL program at Boise State, will present.

Dr. Lisa Giacumo, received her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Technology from Arizona State University, her M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology and her B.A. in French Studies from SUNY University at Albany. Her current research interests focus on instructional design for training and performance support solutions, global training initiatives, social and digital media in training and performance improvement, and competency development in instructional designers. In addition, she has served as an instructional designer and a consultant for US-based nonprofits, for-profits, community colleges, and universities, where she specialized in online, blended, e-learning, and multimedia design and development.
